About Us
Sumac was established in 1985 as a manufacturing company to primarily support the manufacture of screen print machinery for the PCB sector. The company was and remains privately owned, with a strong balance sheet and owner of all its 90,000 sq. ft. factory buildings. Sumac based in Weymouth, Dorset, employs 120 people from all aspects of our local community, with a broad skillset that enhances the capability offering to our customer base. Over the years Sumac has diversified the business, with an acquisition and a fully funded cap-ex investment plan. The current business capability includes, precision turned and milled, machined components up to 4250mm in length, across over 50 conventional and cnc machine tools, including fully automated and robotic loading systems that allow 24-7 lights out machining. Due to the investment in these loading systems the machine shop can increase it capacity by 3500 hrs per month, with immediate effect, and without the need to employ additional personnel. The business also has a fully supported fabrication area, which includes, laser cutting, bending, folding and forming (inc. tube), with fully codified MIG and TIG welding capability, up to a maximum weight of 12.5 tonnes. To enhance the machining and fabrication capability, Sumac also has three dedicated electrical and mechanical assembly areas, these can support a overall range of products from small sub-assemblies, through to complete system solutions. The business supports multiple sectors, including, defence, nuclear, space, food, packaging, electronics, screen print, and renewable energy.
