GDPR in 2021 – key issues for HR
Data protection may not have been front of mind for HR in recent months, but it needs to go back on your agenda in 2021. Join our webinar to hear from our legal experts about key issues such as recent ICO guidance on subject access requests (SARs), handling personal data securely in the context of remote/home-working, the ongoing management of Covid-19 related health data and, of course, the impact of the UK’s exit from the EU following the end of the transition period.

Although the UK has now left the EU, the substance of the EU GDPR has been incorporated into our domestic law and remains applicable. In this webinar, our legal experts will summarise how Brexit impacts data protection law in the UK and what this means for HR.
We will also address other key issues on HR’s 2021 data protection agenda:
- Given the continued impact of the pandemic, HR should review the basis on which they collect and hold Covid-19 related health data, as well as how long they retain it. We will examine these issues through discussion of real life situations.
- Home-working arrangements established in accordance with the Government’s Covid-19 prevention measures may well continue even after such measures are eventually relaxed. We will explain how to mitigate some of the data protection risks that home-working presents.
- In late 2020, the ICO published new guidance on SARs. Using a case study, we will explore the key changes that will impact your processes.
- ‘Accountability’ is a central principle of data protection law – it makes you responsible for both complying with the legislation and also demonstrating your compliance. We will take a look at the ICO’s recently published ‘Accountability Framework’, which helps organisations with this rather daunting task.
- A perennial question is whether processing criminal records data is permitted under data protection law, particularly in relation to recruitment. We will consider the latest ICO guidance on this thorny issue.
The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session.
